A Celtic Journey – Good News is for Sharing! Our journey continues today as we look at St Cuthbert, how he carried the flame of the gospel building community, that was more than just people wherever he went.

Tampering – Sadly someone, for reasons known only to themselves, has been tampering with the sound system. This malicious activity causes significant problems at services, resulting in much distraction, stress and indeed some people not being able to hear the services at all. It is a shame when our worship of God is marred in this way. I ask whoever is responsible to stop this sabotage. We are putting in place appropriate means of surveillance. Brendan

Website – The church website is a hugely important public face of our church. Frequently it is the first point of call for people who are new to Wetherby or to the church. We are looking for someone to be our Web Master/Mistress and, working with a team, oversee our website. We are looking for someone with writing, creative and administrative skills. If you think you might be able to help, and want to know more, please contact Brendan on 01937 520951. Thank you.

The Children’s Society are pleased to announce they will be holding a Coffee & Cake Morning on Thursday 22 August from 9.00am to 11.30am in the Church Centre. There will be refreshments, delicious cakes and books. Please come along for a coffee and treat yourself to a cake! Thank you. Jill Rose

Church on the Corner – A Coffee Morning will be held at Church on the Corner on Saturday 31 August from 9.30am to 12 noon. Please do come along and support us. Many thanks. Mary Gray

The Hamlet Tragedy – St James’ very own ‘Very Useless Theatre Company’ puts on another riveting murder mystery evening on Saturday 31 August in the Church Room at 7pm. Come and solve the clues! Thank you to all those who have offered to make quiches or help with the catering and to our very own home-grown cast! Tickets cost £10 and are available from the Parish Office. Thank you. Robert Haskins. Tel 01937 580217

Vicarage Garden Party on Saturday 7 September at 2.00pm. Please do put this date in your diary, it would be wonderful to see you for tea and cake! Although last year proved we can have fun in the rain, please pray for fine weather! All are most welcome. Brendan
Tombola Prizes are required for the Vicarage Garden Party – if you have any unwanted good quality gifts, including bottles of wine and boxes of chocolates, these would be greatly appreciated. Please bring to the Parish Office by Friday 6 September. With many thanks. Val Messenger
Cakes - If anyone would be able to make any cakes for the day, that would be appreciated too. If you are able to help in this way, please let Suzannah or Brendan know, or sign up on the form at the back of church. Many thanks. Brendan

Quiz – The quiz for August is entitled ‘Poets and Poems’ and costs £1.00. All proceeds go to support the mission of the Church.  Thank you. Susan Armstrong 520763.

Suggestions for Prayer
Pray for those involved in the leadership of our nation: give wisdom and courage to those elected in the UK Parliaments and Assemblies and local councils. Pray too for Queen Elizabeth, who has reigned with integrity for 67 years, granting her good health and wisdom as she fulfils her different roles. “The authorities are God’s servants sent for your good.” Romans 13: 1-4.
People in the Parsons Green area of Wetherby: Parsons Green, Durrant Close, Highcliffe, Highcliffe Court, Bridgefoot, Wetherby Silver Band, Weir Preservation Trust and Wilderness Car Park, Wetherby in Bloom.
Wetherby Churches  pray this week for: St Oswald’s Church, Collingham.

The St James’ Email Prayer Chain – for email prayer chain requests, please email Rosie Rooke mail@rosierooke.plus.com or telephone 01937 580673.

Please note the Parish Office will be closed on Friday 23 and Monday 26 August.
