Suggestions for Prayer
Pray that God will stir up in our hearts and minds a righteous anger about the things and words in this world that grieve us. That we may resist the temptation to believe that there is nothing that we can do about them and to recognise that the ‘steps’ of one individual can make a difference.

CMS Supper on Friday 3 May at 7pm at St Mark’s Church, Leeds Road, Harrogate. Tickets cost £10.00 and the speaker is Dr Corrie Verduyn, who speaks on ‘The Challenge of having a baby in Africa’. Tickets from the Parish Office or Tim Cundy 01423 569135. All very welcome. Derek Taylor

Friends Car Wash and Coffee Morning on Saturday 4 May from 9.00am. There will be a book sale, raffle and cake stall. Any donations for the cake stall would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Calling all knitters and crocheters – Your church needs you! This year, we hope to do another mini mission of yarn bombing Wetherby Town Centre, as part of Thy Kingdom Come, so we need your skills. There will be patterns at the back of church, which Ross Richardson is kindly providing. Last year, people were so blessed by the event, with your help we can do it again. Needles at the ready! Stroma

The St James’ Email Prayer Chain – for email prayer chain requests, please email Rosie Rooke mail@rosierooke.plus.com or telephone 01937 580673.

Work on the Trees – Work will commence on 2 trees in the Churchyard from Tuesday 30th April to Friday 3rd May. During that period Morning Prayers and Wednesday Holy Communion will be held in the Curate’s Office.  In addition the gates will be closed at North Street and Church Street until the work is completed. If you require any further information, please contact the Parish Office 01937 583074.

Adult Baptism/Confirmation Preparation – We are holding 4 adult baptism/confirmation classes on evenings in May and early June for all those who would like to be baptized and/or confirmed. This is always an exciting milestone in our lives, as we affirm our faith as followers of Jesus and as we grow in our belonging. If you would like to find out more, please let David and Sandra York (dwyork@btinternet.com) or Stroma (520512 email stroma.mcdermott@ntlworld.com) know and we can email you further information and confirm dates with you.

Spring Luncheon on Thursday 16 May at The Bridge Hotel, Walshford from 12 noon for 12.30pm. ‘A Life Behind Bars, Tales from the Governor’. Norma Harrington will entertain us with stories from her life and work. There will be a two-course meal, to include coffee and mints. A vegetarian option is available by prior arrangement. Tickets/Menus are available from the Parish Office (583074) and Jean Heaton and Val Lumsden in Church and cost £22.50 per person. All proceeds will be used to further our mission to place St James’ Church at the heart of the community. Eileen

Quiz in aid of St James’ Church Funds on Saturday 18 May. We need to put together two teams of ten people - would you like to be on a team? We also need volunteers to help make sandwiches and cakes and a small team to serve the refreshments at ‘half time’. If you can help in any way, please put your name on the list at the back of Church. Many thanks. Jean Heaton and Sue Taylor
