Suggestions for Prayer

Today is observed as the ‘International Day of Prayer for the Abolition of Slavery’, when we can raise the awareness and pray for the atrocities of modern slavery, so that people’s dignity and human rights are restored. Attention is drawn to child labour, forced marriages and child soldiers. It is estimated that 46 million people worldwide are subject to some form of slavery.

Today Wetherby churches are invited to pray for those struggling with Mental Health issues.      

 

Today Martin Houseis holding its Santa Run in Wetherby.We have been advised that there may be some minor disruption and diversions for traffic. Everyone should still be able to get to Church. Brendan

 

Christmas Crackers on Saturday 8 December from 2pm to 4pm. An Afternoon of Christmas crafts in the Crypt for primary school aged children. For more information, please pick up a leaflet at the back of the Church. We need volunteers to set up and at the event. 

 

Quiz – The quiz for December is called ‘It’s Christmas’. The quiz costs £1.00 and all proceeds go to support the mission of the Church.  Thank you. Susan Armstrong 520763

 

Friends of Wetherby Parish Church Music

Coffee Morning with Carols on Saturday 8 December at 9.30am. This traditional event will be held in the Church Centre, festive music will be sung by the Church and Gospel choirs. Mince pies, coffee and mulled wine will be served.

Jack & The Beanstalk - Pantomime – Thursday 3 January 2019 at Harrogate Theatre for their matinee performance. The coach will leave the Cluster of Nuts carpark at 1pm. There are still a few tickets left for members of the congregation and we would ask for a contribution of £15 pp, this includes the theatre ticket and the coach. Charity Carol Service on Monday 10 December at 7.30pm at St James’ Church – This year’s chosen charity is St Gemma’s Hospice. Tickets are £5.00 and are available from Jean Heaton, Sheila Guest or the Parish Office. Thank you. Jean Heaton 07866 366314.

 

Community Christmas Celebration Service – A short service for all ages and abilities, followed by refreshments on Thursday 13 December at 1.45pmat St James’ Church. Everyone is welcome. For more information, please speak to Val Lumsden on 01937 584760

 

Nativity Service on Sunday 23 December at 10am– Calling Mary, Joseph, shepherds, angels and kings – our Nativity Service needs you! If your children would like to be part of this simple, but wonderful service, please speak to/contact Ruth Graham or Sue Davies. Rehearsals will be on Sundays 9 and 16 December between 10-11am in the Church Centre. Costumes provided! Ruth Graham 07766 554182.

 

Christingles– This year we will be making the Christingles on Sunday 23December at 2pm in the Centre Coffee Lounge. Anyone wishing to help is very welcome. Thank you. Mary Hare 01937 585158

 

Remembrance Tree– will be illuminated on Advent Sunday, 2 December, and remain lit until Epiphany, 6 January. If you would like to dedicate a light, please pick up a form from the back of church or from the Parish Office. Val Lumsden

 

Christmas Day Lunch from 12 noon to 3pm. Churches Together will be serving a traditional Christmas Lunch at St James’ Church Centre. Follow The Star– Archbishops Justin & John have produced a guide for the Christmas season. £5 buys ‘Follow The Star’ guide and a Christmas box, courtesy of the charity In2Out, for a young person spending Christmas in Wetherby YOI.
