Suggestions for Prayers

Let us pray for God’s continued blessings and guidance of the ministry and work of CMS, both in this country and overseas, and in supporting and encouraging all the Link Mission Partners.

We pray for Mim Knowles, our LMP, and her colleague Chipe, that they would be refreshed and strengthened and enjoy good health and safety in travelling to the various villages around Iringa, Tanzania.

Pray for People in any part of Wetherby and district for whom we have not prayed and especially those who have recently come to settle in the Wetherby area.

This week Churches in Wetherby pray for:  The work of Churches Together both in the community and outside.

The Alpha Course starts tomorrow, Monday 16 April at 7.00pm to 9.15pm in the Church Centre. Thank you. Val Lumsden 07984 074710

Annual Parish Meetings – The Annual Meeting of Parishioners, for the election of Churchwardens, and the Annual Parochial Church Meeting will both be held on Thursday 19 April in the Town Hall at 7.30pm, with drinks and nibbles served from 7pm. The APCM receives a variety of written and verbal reports that together provide an overview of church activities for the last 12 months, as well as a look forward. The 2017/18 Annual Report, the 2017 parish accounts and agendas will be available, in church, on Sunday 15 April and at the meeting.

The APCM elects annually five lay representatives to the Parochial Church Council (PCC) for a period of three years. This year, there are also two vacancies for a two year term. Nomination forms for Churchwardens, Deputy Churchwardens and PCC membership are available in the church porch today. Nominations can also be made at the meeting, except for Churchwardens. Please prayerfully consider whether you could stand for any of these roles, or who you would nominate. PCC nominees are asked to write a short description of themselves. Audrey Spivey, PCC Secretary email: cawetherby@live.co.uk

Family Time Parenting Children Course – Have you got children under 12 years old? Come and be encouraged and inspired! A six week course starts on Wednesday 9 May at 9.45am in the Church Room, crèche available. For more details, please pick up a flyer at the back of Church or speak to Suzannah Giblin 07706 472495

Thy Kingdom Come – as part of this year’s prayer for Thy Kingdom Come, we will be yarn bombing the market square and local businesses with knitted butterflies on Thursday 10 May at 10am. The butterflies are a symbol of transformation and blessing by the Holy Spirit. We want to bless Wetherby by having a team of people at the market offering butterflies, prayers and blessings to passers-by. If that is something you would like to do, please let Val, Ros Richardson or Stroma know. It should be fun and there will be an interactive training session on Thursday 3 May between 10-11.30am in the Church Centre. Thank you. Stroma

Parish Magazine – As a Church, we distribute approximately 372 copies of our Parish Magazine each month. This is a fantastic outreach opportunity not only to promote the work of St James, at the heart of the community, but also publicise events and advertising in the wider community. If you know of anyone who has recently moved into your street, or you may just have joined our church community, and would like a copy of the magazine delivered monthly at £6 per year (concessions £5), then please let me know via the Parish Office. Thank you, Gina Voller email, ginavoller@hotmail.co.uk or telephone 01937 583639

Esther Ladies – Advance notice of a ‘bubbles and brushes’ evening on Friday 11 May from 7pm in the Church Room. Another chance to paint those pots/ceramics, with fizz and fellowship. All welcome and bring a friend! Thank you. Stroma

The Altar flowers for this week are dedicated to Shirley Finneran, a very close friend of Peter and Eileen. Shirley unexpectedly died on Easter Sunday. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shirley’s family.
