Caretakers – Janet Aristotelous will be retiring from her role of Caretaker at the end of August. We would very much like to thank Janet and her husband Daggi, who was our Groundsman, but sadly had to retire due to ill health, for the hard work and effort in looking after the Church, Church Centre buildings and grounds to a very high standard over the last 4 years. If you wish to make a donation towards a leaving gift you can do that through the Parish Office or via one of the Churchwardens.

We are pleasedto say that Cliff Tetlow has now been appointed as full-time Caretaker/Groundsman and commences his increased duties from 1 September 2018.

Suggestions for Prayers

After the very good weather we have enjoyed recently, some parts of the country are experiencing drought and this can remind us to pray for those countries suffering from severe drought, especially Kenya and Ethiopia. We can thank God for the encouraging progress being made in providing clean water and improved sanitation for the poorest places in the world. Pray that the ‘Sustainable Development Goal’, to give everyone access to safe water by 2031, will be achieved.

Pray for People in the Barleyfields area of Wetherby:   Barleyfields Road, Barleyfields Court, Foxhill, Woodhill View

This week Churches in Wetherby pray for: All Saints’ Spofforth & All Saints’ Kirk Deighton

Step-up at St James’ begins again in September– Step-up is a year-long process of learning about the Christian faith and practical discipleship. Step-up gives people an opportunity to learn, explore and to ask questions and the space to discern God’s call and purpose for their lives. Leaflets are available at the back of Church. To book a place or for more information, please contact Val Lumsden Tel 07984 074710 or email: valandjimlumsden@gmail.com

Appreciation – Derek Taylor and family wish to thank all those who recently shared with them so many kind expressions of love, support and sympathy. I know that Val would have appreciated the prayers and condolences and the  attendance at the funeral service and especially the singing; very grateful thanks to Stroma for her pastoral care and to the choir for their leading in the worship. To the ladies who helped with the refreshments and ensured that visitors were made to feel very welcome, to those who decorated the church so tastefully and ensuring that the sound system was so effective; to the office staff who ensured that the very generous response with the donations went to the dedicated charities.  Thank you very much.
