Caretakers – Janet Aristotelous will be retiring from her role of Caretaker at the end of August. We would very much like to thank Janet and her husband Daggi, who was our Groundsman, but sadly had to retire due to ill health, for the hard work and effort in looking after the Church, Church Centre buildings and grounds to a very high standard over the last 4 years. If you wish to make a donation towards a leaving gift you can do that through the Parish Office or via one of the Churchwardens.

 

We are pleasedto say that Cliff Tetlow has now been appointed as full-time Caretaker/Groundsman and commences his increased duties from 01.09.18

12thSunday After Trinity Slavery Remembrance Day falls this week when we can pray for justice and freedom for all, in this country and throughout the world, who are caught up in modern slave trade through trafficking and bonded labour. Pray for the Church of England’s  setting up of the Clewer Initiative to help dioceses to be more aware of modern slavery and assist its victims. It is estimated that there are 40 million slaves throughout the world!

Step-up at St James’ begins again in September– Step-up is a year-long process of learning about the Christian faith and practical discipleship. Step-up gives people an opportunity to learn, explore and to ask questions and the space to discern God’s call and purpose for their lives. Leaflets are available at the back of Church. Autumn Luncheon – Thursday 20 September at The Bridge Hotel, Walshford12 noon for 12.30pm. Tickets cost £25 pp, to include a 2-course meal. The guest speaker will be Dennis Richards, retired Headteacher of St Aidan’s CE High School, who will entertain us with stories from his teaching career. Do join us at this special event. Women’s Retreat Day on Saturday 29 September in the Church Centre. All are welcome to join us from 10.30am to 3.30pm for an exciting day of refreshment and new vision and hope. Thank you. Stroma

 

The Church on the Corner Annual Coffee Morning was a great success - so thank you to all who came to support it.  Thank you also to those who baked for the cake stall, made coffee and gave prizes for the raffle and Tombola. It was lovely to be able to socialise in the sunshine and meet friends old and new. £135.65 was raised in support of St. James Church and Church on the Corner.  Mary Gray
