Suggestions for Prayers

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Christian Aid working globally to expose the scandal of poverty, eradicate its causes and provide aid for those who suffer from it. So we pray for God’s blessing on all who are affected, that they may come to experience a full and poverty-free life; for the organisers, collectors and those manning the C.A. stall and plant sale.

People in the Linton Road Area of Wetherby: Linton Road, Wharfe View, Wharfe Grove, Wharfe Grange, Oak Ridge, Shaw Barn Croft, Shaw Barn Lane, Linton Meadows.

This week Wetherby Churches are asked to pray for:  St Oswald’s Church, Collingham.

Christian Aid Week 14 to 20 May 2017

Christian Aid Stall at Wetherby Market on Thursday 18 May organised by Churches Together. If you could spare an hour on the day to help run the stall, please contact Sandra Ellen 01937 585036 or srmesh@aol.com. Also any plants, cakes, preserves, etc, to sell would be appreciated. Sandra Ellen.

A Coffee Morning will be held in support of Christian Aid on:

Saturday 20 May in St. James’ Church Centre 9.30am until 12 noon.

Do not be cynical about the Election – The Archbishops have issued a pastoral letter about the General Election. It is well worth reading. The letter can be found at www.churchofengland.org/media/3977056/electionletter_text.pdf. There are a few paper copies at the back of church. Brendan

Mothers’ Union would like to thank all those who very kindly came and supported our coffee morning held on 6 May. This was very successful and we made £234 for MU Funds. We are very grateful to everyone concerned. Thank you. Chris Maloney

Flowers – This week’s altar flowers are in loving memory of Barry Wilkinson (Mavis’s husband). Shirley Fawcett

The St James’ Email Prayer Chain – For email prayer chain requests, please email rosierooke@btinternet.com or telephone 01937 580673

Coffee Morning – Saturday 27 May at 10am at 9 Lazenby Drive, Wetherby. We are having a coffee morning to raise money for the young people to travel to Nepal to support the Tearfund Nepal project. Please do come and support our young people in this worthwhile trip. Many thanks. Jackie Taylor 01937 582339 email jackietaylor0468@gmail.com

Plant Stall at the Summer Fete – Saturday 10 June – We are planning a plant stall, but need donations to stock it! If you are splitting plants, have extra seedlings or any other surplus plants, please think of us! Please contact Greta Coles-Johnson on gretacojo@gmail.com or on 07826 066135 or 583541. Please drop off at Church Centre on Friday 9 June or I can collect during that week. Thank you. Greta Coles-Johnson

St James’ Fun Art and Craft Competition – Saturday 10 June – We are holding a ‘Fun Art and Craft Competition’ in the Church during the Fete. Twelve different categories, covering all age groups. It is free to enter and you can enter as many different categories as you like. So get your knitting needles, paint brushes, aprons, vases, cameras and Lego out and have a go! Thank you. Jean Heaton and Sue Taylor

An enjoyable read – Copies of our own St James’ Parish magazine can be found in the church porch. At only 60p a month, or get it delivered as part of a very reasonable annual subscription package, it represents good value. You will find details of services and other activities based around the church and articles on a wide range of topics. Thank you. Alan Britton

Holy Land Pilgrimage – I now have twelve names for those wishing to join the pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2018, but we still require 16 people to make it viable. So, if you are considering going, please let me have your names as soon as possible, so that I can receive dates from Pilgrim Travel. Thank you Derek Taylor dervaltaylor@talktalk.net 01937 918534
