Suggestions for Prayers

Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week, the most important week in the year for Christians, as we seek to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, observing Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and on to celebrate the joy of Easter Day. We pray for the various services being held in Church that, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we will be encouraged to draw nearer to Jesus and learn from His words and discover afresh His love for each one of us.

Pray for People in the Barleyfields area of Wetherby: Barleyfields Road, Barleyfields Court, Foxhill, Woodhill View

This week Churches in Wetherby pray for: those people struggling with poverty and the work and ministry of CAP.

Confirmation at Ripon Cathedral this afternoon at 5.30pm – Please continue to pray for Joe, Gabi and Tamsin for this special occasion. There will be plenty of room for anyone who wishes to come along to support them. Stroma McDermott

Community Easter Celebration – A short service for all ages and abilities on Wednesday 28 March at 1.45pm at St James’ Church. Please join us after the service for refreshments. Everyone is welcome. For more information, please speak to Val Lumsden 01937 584760.

Good Friday Walk of Witness – Those wanting to process will meet at 10.40am at the One Stop Shop. If anyone is able to help co-ordinate and marshal the walk around the Town, please let Stroma know ASAP.

Easter Sunday Dawn Service with breakfast at 6.00am. On Easter morning we meet outside St James’ Church to greet the risen Christ, as we gather round the Easter Fire. We then process into church to renew our baptismal vows. Finally, we all go to the Church Centre to share breakfast. If you would like to join us, please sign the sheet at the back of church. All very welcome. Marilyn Smith

The St James’ Email Prayer Chain – For email prayer chain requests, please email rosierooke@btinternet.com or telephone 01937 580673

Pastoral Care – Looking after those who are ill or unable to leave home is very important to us. We do not want to miss anyone, so if you are ill, taken into hospital or know someone who is, please let us know, so that the clergy and Pastoral Care Team can make arrangements. Thank you. Stroma and Hilary Bailey.

The Alpha Course is back! – Starts on Monday 16 April at 7.00pm to 9.15pm in the Church Centre. For more information or to book a place, please contact Val Lumsden 07984 074710 or email valandjimlumssden@gmail.com.

Electoral Roll 2018 – Susan Armstrong is bringing the Electoral Roll up to date, ready for the Annual Meeting on Thursday 19 April. If you are a regular at St James’ and have never filled in a form to be included on this list of members, these are at the back of Church. Forms need to be returned to Susan by 4 April. Many thanks. Audrey Spivey

APCM – This is an exciting time in the life of St James’ and we need people to help shape St James’, our ministries and our commitment to work in and with the Community around us. Could this be something for you? Nomination papers for the election of Church Wardens, Deputy Church Wardens and Representatives onto the PCC will be available before the Easter weekend and we would love to explain what these roles are about and provide support to anyone interested. If you would like to find out more, please speak to Bob Greene, Jean Heaton, Audrey Spivey or Stroma.

Our Religious Freedom – This is the name given to a request to sign a petition seeking a new law to ensure full religious freedom in this country. It is promoted by the Christian organisation Barnabas Fund that, for 25 years, has worked for the freedom of persecuted Christians world-wide. Article 18, of the Universal Bill of Human Rights, includes ‘the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion’. By supporting this petition, we are sending the message that freedom of religion in the UK should be protected. Petition sheets are at the back of Church. Thank you. Derek Taylor

The Children’s Society – Thank you to all who attended the recent afternoon tea and talk by the Butler, Mr Michael Davidson Paine. This was a very enjoyable event and we raised £750 for The Children’s Society. Thank you from the Wetherby Children’s Society Committee
