Suggestions for Prayers

There are more than 7 million, working-age, disabled people in the UK with only 48% in employment; many of whom are anxious about proposed cuts in Employment Support Allowances. Pray that no disabled person is without the necessary support in their daily lives and that cuts to welfare are fair and just.

People in the Deighton Road Area of Wetherby:  Deighton Road, North Grove Road, North Grove Avenue, North Grove Crescent, North Grove Drive, North Grove Way, North Gove Approach, North Grove Mount, North Court Grove, Stone Dene Park, Appleby Way.

This week Wetherby Churches are asked to pray for:  Wetherby and Collingham Methodist churches.

 

Book Club – Novel Conversations - Tuesday 6 June at 7.30pm in the Curate’s Office. All are welcome to our book club, when we will be discussing Jessie Burton’s novel ‘The Muse’. General Election Hustings – Question Time. Churches Together has re-arranged an evening with all the candidates for the Parliamentary Election now on Tuesday 30 May at 7.30pm-9.00pm in St James’ Church. Come and hear the candidates speak for themselves, interrogate them and listen to their answers. This evening will be an excellent way to engage in the shaping of our shared national life. Summer Fete – Saturday 10 June

Plant Stall - We are planning a plant stall, but need donations to stock it! If you are splitting plants, have extra seedlings or any other surplus plants, please think of us! St James’ Fun Art and Craft Competition – Saturday 10 June – We are holding a ‘Fun Art and Craft Competition’ in the Church during the Fete. Twelve different categories, covering all age groups. It is free to enter and you can enter as many different categories as you like. So get your knitting needles, paint brushes, aprons, vases, cameras and Lego out and have a go! Thank you. ‘Thy Kingdom Come’  an invitation for all25 May to 4 June – Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, is encouraging Christians all around the world, as part of the global prayer movement ‘Thy Kingdom Come’, to join him in praying for more people to know Jesus Christ. Do please join in and see what God might do. St James’ events include:

Wednesday 31 May 7pm to 8pm – Prayer and Praise Evening in Church

Friday 2 June 10am to 11am – Prayer Walk through the town. When pausing at businesses, residential homes, schools, shops, etc, we can pray for all who live, work and visit the town. Please meet at Church at 10am. Thank you. Lorna Johnson
