St James' Day

Paul Hooper.jpg

Please join us on Sunday when we will be celebrating St James' Day.  We will be giving thanks for the life of our church and renewing our commitment to be Christ's servants here in Wetherby. St James (apostle and patron saint of pilgrims) discovered the hard way that following Christ is a call to radical service. We thank God for all who serve him and his church in ways that are often unseen, and even undervalued. On the foundation of such service Christ builds his kingdom.

I am delighted that we will be joined by Judy and Paul Hooper at our 10.30am Family Communion in the Churchyard. Paul, former Archdeacon of Leeds and no stranger to Wetherby, will be our preacher. We look forward to what Paul has to share with us.

For after the service everyone is warmly invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the Tetley Land (the field behind the Parish Office). It will be a great chance to meet new friends and catch up with people. All are most welcome. The weather forecast could not be any better!

Monday 19 July

We are all wondering what the relaxing of restrictions will mean for church life. The Government has said that we are moving from the imposition of rules to the exercise of personal and corporate responsibility. At the same time, we see the rise in infections and hear the concern of many experts about the effects this will have. As a church, we are committed to keeping everyone as safe as possible, and, as best we can, protecting those who are vulnerable. Please bear with us as we digest the advice of the government and Church of England and work out how to proceed.

With every blessing….

Brendan

Digital Mission Fund

Many people kindly and generously supported the Digital Mission Fund. This has enabled us to invest in the equipment we need to share the Good News of Jesus widely. During lockdown, digitally sharing worship was the only option available to us. As we have moved out of lockdown, we have been able to continue to digitally share our worship with those who, for whatever reason, cannot be with us physically. Thank you for all your support in this.

You may be interested to see how the fund is being utilised - please see below. There are several aspects of digital mission which will call upon the remaining funds in future months - for example there are further upgrades of sound equipment, more investment in our website, a possible new sound desk as well as ongoing costs to support.

Thank you for enabling us to step up and reach out in our digital age.

Financial Support

"God loves cheerful givers" 2 Cor 9.7

We are extremely grateful to everyone who supports St James' financially.

This support enables us to be at the heart of the community sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.  As part of a diocesan family of churches we also support less well resourced parishes in other parts of the diocese.  Since lockdown, as collections during services have been limited, we have suffered a significant drop in our income.  Unless this income is recovered the things we can do as a church will be severely curtailed.

I would like to ask everyone to consider two things.

1)  If you are not doing so already, please consider setting up a standing order through your bank. (Thank you to those who, since lockdown, have already made this transition.) This is the easiest way to give, and it is Covid- secure. The form for giving and Gift Aid is here:  Regular Giving Form

Our bank details are:  Wetherby Parochial Church Council account at NatWest Bank PLC  Sort Code: 55-81-11  Account No: 04416775

2)   If you are able to, please consider increasing your giving. Like everyone else each year inflation means that our costs increase. If it is a while since you increased your regular giving please consider doing so. Or perhaps you might be able to consider a one-off gift to St James', in which case you could support a specific area of church life, Worship, Mission or Fabric?

If you require any further information please contact our Stewardship Officer, Jill Rose 01937 586 640. All information is treated in the strictest confidence.

My old vicar used suggest to people that they give as much as makes them joyful. I thought that was a rather good way of putting it. As St Paul says, "God loves cheerful giver". 2 Cor 9.7

Thank you for all your support. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
