Church's Birthday

6.jpg

The Day of Pentecost is often referred to as the church's birthday. For obvious reasons we shall not be blowing out candles on a birthday cake, but we will be celebrating.

Please join us, if not in-person then on-line, as we give thanks for the gift of God's Spirit to the church and his presence in each and every Christian.

The 11.00 All-Age Holy Communion will be outside in the churchyard. The old hymns spoke of 'Pentecostal showers'. These would be great, so long as we do not get wet! (The forecast is dry for Sunday morning, phew!)

11.00am Worship @11.00 All Age Holy Communion in the Churchyard - This service will also be live-streamed to Facebook and Youtube

The Holy Spirit enables the church to share the good news of Jesus. Can you help us to do this…..

Children's, Young People's and Family Worker
Please help us to invest in the future?

After four years with us, our Youth Worker, Sarah Sharp left us in March last year to take up a job closer to home. Sarah did a wonderful job. As well as missing Sarah, we miss the fantastic work that she did among us for the children and young people of our church as well as her very significant  work in local schools and within the community.

Recognising that this role is vital for our outreach and health as a church, the PCC would like to appoint a new part-time Children's, Young People's and Family Worker.

So far, because of people's generosity, we have two years of funding for this role. An additional £12,685 is needed in order to secure this post for three years. Our firm hope and expectation is that this post will  extend well beyond three years. Before preceding, however, we consider it prudent to have the security of a full three year's funding.

Can you help us with this vital appointment please?  Would you be able to support this project with either a one-off donation or a regular pledge, say over three years please? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You may give by BACS:- Wetherby Parochial Church Council, NatWest Bank

Account No. 04416775 Sort Code 55-81-11 Ref Youth Worker

Or by cheque made payable to Wetherby PCC.  Please mark you donation Youth Worker.  C/O Parish Office, Church Street, Wetherby, LS22 6LP

If you would like to know more about this project please do get in touch with me.

Thank you.

With every blessing,

Brendan

Ascension Day Worship in Churchyard 7.00pm Thursday 13 May

We thought we would try something different this year and celebrate Christ's Ascension outside.  We will still need to maintain social-distancing and mask wearing, but being outside will mean that we can sing.

Do join us as we worship our risen, ascended and glorified Lord, the One who fills the skies.

If you could pray for fine weather that would be appreciated, otherwise we will be back in church!

Pentecost - 16th May - 'I will pour out my Spriit on all flesh'.  Jesus promised not to leave us alone, but to send his Spirit as our comforter and helper. At Pentecost we celebrate God's presence with us, completing in us more than we could ever imagine.

Please join us in-person or on-line to worship together.  Booking is no longer required for any of our services. Contact details for track and trace will still need to given or the QR code used, and social-distancing, mask wearing and the usual precautions will be adhered to.

Try Praying
At the back of church there are some excellent booklets that encourage us to 'Try Praying'.  The booklet, to be read over a week, contains seven accounts of how prayer has changed people. It's fascinating, intriguing, and an invitation to explore more.

Please take a booklet, use it, or pass it on to a friend.

Thy Kingdom Come (Thursday 13 May)  - Pentecost (Sunday 23 May)
The season between Ascension Day and Pentecost has always been a time of prayer, of seeking God and the transformative power of his Holy Spirit.

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York, joined by leaders of other denominations, invite us to pray for the coming of God's Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven, and for five people we know to come to know Jesus and his love for themselves.

Prayer cards and journals will be in church. Please pick these up.

Financial Support

"God loves cheerful givers" 2 Cor 9.7

We are extremely grateful to everyone who supports St James' financially.

This support enables us to be at the heart of the community sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.  As part of a diocesan family of churches we also support less well resourced parishes in other parts of the diocese.  Since lockdown, as collections during services have been limited, we have suffered a significant drop in our income.  Unless this income is recovered the things we can do as a church will be severely curtailed.

I would like to ask everyone to consider two things.

1)  If you are not doing so already, please consider setting up a standing order through your bank. (Thank you to those who, since lockdown, have already made this transition.) This is the easiest way to give, and it is Covid- secure. The form for giving and Gift Aid is here:  Regular Giving Form

Our bank details are:  Wetherby Parochial Church Council account at NatWest Bank PLC  Sort Code: 55-81-11  Account No: 04416775

2)   If you are able to, please consider increasing your giving. Like everyone else each year inflation means that our costs increase. If it is a while since you increased your regular giving please consider doing so. Or perhaps you might be able to consider a one-off gift to St James', in which case you could support a specific area of church life, Worship, Mission or Fabric?

If you require any further information please contact our Stewardship Officer, Jill Rose 01937 586 640. All information is treated in the strictest confidence.

My old vicar used suggest to people that they give as much as makes them joyful. I thought that was a rather good way of putting it. As St Paul says, "God loves cheerful giver". 2 Cor 9.7

Thank you for all your support. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
