Thank you

Thank you to everyone who helped St James' Day be the wonderful time it was.  We heard a super message from Paul Hooper about perseverance and serving others.  My special thanks go to Michael and the choir who, in the blistering heat, led our sung music beautifully, and to Cliff Tetlow our Caretaker for working like a Trojan in the heat.  It was good to come together.

Worship at St James' - staying safe
From last Monday, the government removed most covid legislation and replaced it with the encouragement of personal and corporate responsibility. There is now much more that we are permitted to do. We are, however, asked to decide on what is safe to do.

Face Coverings - Given the current situation, the PCC has decided that face coverings in church will continue to be required.

Social Distancing - Although relaxed, we will maintain some social distancing. We certainly will not be cramming people together. People will have the opportunity to keep seats next to them empty to maintain space they feel comfortable with.

Worship - In line with guidance, services will remain shorter than usual. Very sadly we will not share the chalice (though of course we believe that the grace of Holy Communion is fully present in either element). The offering of the common cup is something that I dearly want to resume as soon as possible. Like all other measures we will keep this under review.

Singing - Positively we will resume congregational singing. Even those of us (like me) whose singing is not tuneful, through its absence, have recognised what an important aspect of our worship singing is.

In common with most other churches, we are moving forward cautiously. We are aware of those who are vulnerable and seek to look after everyone. We are committed to acting responsibly and progressing as safely as we can. We will keep these measures under review.

I thank the PCC and all who help to navigate us through this time.

With every blessing,
Brendan

Financial Support

"God loves cheerful givers" 2 Cor 9.7

We are extremely grateful to everyone who supports St James' financially.

This support enables us to be at the heart of the community sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.  As part of a diocesan family of churches we also support less well resourced parishes in other parts of the diocese.  Since lockdown, as collections during services have been limited, we have suffered a significant drop in our income.  Unless this income is recovered the things we can do as a church will be severely curtailed.

I would like to ask everyone to consider two things.

1)  If you are not doing so already, please consider setting up a standing order through your bank. (Thank you to those who, since lockdown, have already made this transition.) This is the easiest way to give, and it is Covid- secure. The form for giving and Gift Aid is here:  Regular Giving Form

Our bank details are:  Wetherby Parochial Church Council account at NatWest Bank PLC  Sort Code: 55-81-11  Account No: 04416775

2)   If you are able to, please consider increasing your giving. Like everyone else each year inflation means that our costs increase. If it is a while since you increased your regular giving please consider doing so. Or perhaps you might be able to consider a one-off gift to St James', in which case you could support a specific area of church life, Worship, Mission or Fabric?

If you require any further information please contact our Stewardship Officer, Jill Rose 01937 586 640. All information is treated in the strictest confidence.

My old vicar used suggest to people that they give as much as makes them joyful. I thought that was a rather good way of putting it. As St Paul says, "God loves cheerful giver". 2 Cor 9.7

Thank you for all your support. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
